Physical Therapy is a hands on treatment used to maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability including circumstances where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury or disease.
Functional movement is central to what it means to be healthy.
The purpose of physical therapy is to provide services to our patients that allow them to restore and maintain maximum movement and functional ability throughout their life.
At Riverview Clinic® we use a combination of manual therapy techniques, exercises and specific modalities to ensure our patients are feeling and functioning better. The primary focus of our program is manual therapy, which can include myofascial release (deep tissue treatments done by hand), stretching of any restrictions and soft tissue and joint mobilisation.
History / Consultation
On your first visit a detailed case history will be taken detailing all aspects of your condition. This information will help build a clearer picture as to how the dysfunction occurred. With this information in mind a functional assessment will be carried out with your permission.
A functional assessment involves assessing ranges of movement in the body & some specific tests to help isolate the problem area(s). With the information gathered from the history & assessment your Physical Therapist will explain the findings to you & how they relate to your condition. From here if you wish to proceed, a treatment plan will be designed focusing on the dysfunctional regions.
A specific treatment plan can now be designed for your condition. As part of the treatment various hands on techniques will be used to help resolve the condition. The number of treatments required will depend on the person and the length of time the condition has been present.
In some cases rehabilitation / postural re-education programs may be given as a home care program to aid the recovery process & prevent recurrence of the condition. These exercises range from stretching and strengthening to core stabilisation.
